Department of Medicine is one of the departments under the clinical services of Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu and has been part of the pioneer clinical department since upgrading the status of the hospital to a federal medical center in year 2000.
The various units coordinated by Medicine Department are: Male & Female Medical Wards, Infectious Diseases/Isolation Ward, Medical Out-patient Unit, Medical Emergency Unit, TB/HIV-ART Unit, Haemato-oncology Unit, Haemodialysis Unit** and the Medical Diagnostic Unit which include Electrocardiography, Echocardiography and Endoscopy**.

To provide efficient and qualitative medical services, training and research using qualified staffs and the state of art facilities.

MANPOWER AND SPECIALIST AVAILABLE
Currently there are four permanent Consultants, which include:
 Endocrinologist & Diabetologist
 Nephrologist
 Haematologist.
 Infectious Diseases Physician
Three visiting Consultants which include:
 2 Cardiologist
 Metabolic/Chemical Pathologist
There are 10 Medical Officers including 2 on Locum, 3 with Primaries, 1 MSc. While 2 Junior Registrars and 1 Senior Registrar were posted for their postgraduate residency training.
Supportive staffs include:
2 Technicians and a Clerical Officer.

Department of Medicine in the last four years (2017-2021) has witness significant improvement in term of efficiency and quality of services rendered through the improvement in human resources with the employment of Specialists, the training and re-training of its member as well as motivation derived from specialized on-going project which include the Renal Haemodialysis Unit, Endoscopy Unit and the New Infectious Diseases/Isolation ward with Molecular Laboratory.
