Obstetrics & Gynecology

The department of obstetrics and gynaecology is one of the four main clinical departments of the hospital that offers the following essential clinical services;
• Gynaecological services. This includes running of outpatient clinics and evaluation and management of patients that present to the gynaecological emergency unit.
• Ante-partum, intra-partum and post-partum care. This includes the running of booking clinic, antenatal clinics and management of all obstetric emergencies and care.
• Gynaecological surgical services, Obstetrics related surgical services
• Family planning services (Fertility regulation).
• prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV services in conjunction with FHI 360
• The training of house officers in clinical skill acquisition.
THE STAFF STRENGHT
The department has 5 Consultants (1 is on leave of absence) and 8 medical officers (one is on leave of absence)
ACHIEVEMENT: Since the assumption of duty of the CMD, Prof. S.H. Idris
 The department has gotten additional two consultants and four medical officers. This has helped in expansion and improved service deliveries.
 The department of O&G now has well-motivated staff, especially in the area of promotion and remuneration, who primarily work hard to improve women’s reproductive health in Jigawa and neighbouring states.
 The management has also hired clinical microbiologist and histopathologist who work in tandem with O&G to improve diagnosis and treatment of STIs, PIDs and gynaecological cancers. The department is now fully able to offer cervical cancer test such as pap smear, colposcopy and VIA for diagnosis and treatment.
 The management of Prof. Suleiman has also completed the new O&G Complex which is now being equip with state-of-the-art facilities in order to improve training, research and service delivery. The facility is secured with CCTV cameras.
 The department has engaged the services of the media to reach the rural communities on the importance of antenatal care, having access to a trained birth attendant during labour and deliveries, and cervical cancer screening with the aim of preventing infant and maternal morbidity and mortality
