Intensive Care Unit
Intensive Care Unit (ICU), also known as critical care unit (CCU); is a special unit of a hospital or health care facility that provides intensive care to critically ill patients.
ICU takes care of patients with severe or life threatening illnesses and injuries, which require constant care, close supervision from life support equipments and medications in order to ensure normal body function.
Medical conditions that are treated in ICU include; acute respiratory disease syndrome, septic shock, multiply injured patient, cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infection etc.
Patients may be referred from an emergency department, from wards if their illness deteriorate or from theatre immediately after surgery in patient with high risk of complications.
In the year 2021, the Hospital acquire and equipped a new Seven bedded intensive care unit with four new ICU beds, 4 mechanical ventilators, 4 multi parameter monitors, 4 syringe pumps, 4 infusion pumps and patients bed side lockers, a bed side x-ray machine and an Automated Electrical Defibrillation (AED) for better patient care.
Initially, the Hospital had only 1 adult ventilator and one Multi-parameter monitor
