Oxygen

Oxygen

The Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu has its own oxygen plant, which was installed and commissioned on the 20thof November 2010. It has a port brand of AG18 atlas Copco with an installed capacity of 7m3 of oxygen per hour.

Between 2010 to 2018, the plant suffered frequent breakdown thus interrupting the regular supply of oxygen to the hospital and other hospitals in Jigawa, Bauchi, Katsina States and Niger Republic.

Concerned by this situation, the Board of Management of the Hospital approached the Government of Jigawa State through the then Honourable Commissioner for Health Dr. Abba Zakari and the State Government responded positively.

A total overhaul and service maintenance with replacement of some parts was done and fully financed by the Jigawa State Government at the cost of Six Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only (N6,500,000.00).

Since then, the plant has been functional and is able to meet the oxygen needs of our hospital and other hospitals as well, although we do encounter interruption in production mainly due to damage caused by power fluctuation.

We have collaborated with the engineers from Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe to ensure periodic preventive service maintenance and regular production and supply of oxygen.
