Surgery

General surgery is one of the departments under the Clinical Services in Federal Medical Centre Birnin kudu.
Its routines includes; surgical specialty clinic, elective Surgeries, consultant ward rounds, academic activities (seminar presentations, reviews etc) and residence ward rounds. There is also 24 hours coverage of surgical emergencies in the hospital.
The department has achieved some improvements during the period under review.
 The employment of a permanent consultant in addition to several visiting consultants and medical officers, and also the employment of consultant microbiologist and pathologist have direct impact on the activities in General surgery.
 Procurement of more equipment and instruments, outfit and apron has improved the convenience and the theater working conditions.
 The management provided laptop for documentation and academic activities.
 The hospital involvement in the Jigawa State health insurance scheme also extends to the surgery department.
 The covid-19 protective equipment was fully provided for the staff including testing in the ongoing pandemic.
 The management has initiated and commenced the construction of a 5 suite modular operating theatre, which also includes intensive care unit, pharmacy and laboratory.
 The initiative to improve manpower, equipment / instruments, the working environment and staff welfare has in pacted on performance.
 The completed and ongoing infrastructural development will further improve the quality and scope of services.
